The Meaning of Life
Does there have to be one?
Seriously… People get so caught up in this that they lose track of why they’re answering the question in the first place. The reason you’d even want to answer this question is that you want to feel that your life has purpose. Believe it or not, this planet does not revolve around you.
Facts are facts. The universe evolved the way it did simply because it could. There is no inherent “purpose” to it, nor should there be any. We are human beings simply out of chance; there’s nothing special about it. Convince yourself otherwise, and you’re either vain, or just very impressionable. Don’t believe me? Think about it for yourself.
In any case, that’s not the main point I’m trying to raise here, and if you’re interested in that, do that yourself. What I’m interested in is finding out what to do once you’ve accepted that fact. And the way I see it is: Make one up. You are unique, and therefore deserve a life tailored to fit specifically you.
The way I see it, a universal answer to this question would be discriminatory. Every single person I’ve met has a unique definition of happiness, as well as a unique way of getting there. Therefore, it would make the most sense to let each person pick out his own meaning to his own life. I’m sure any preconceived notions you may have about the meaning of life probably stem from your own experiences, and your own needs and wants. It’s nice that you’re in touch with yourself… but please. Don’t superimpose your own life on the rest of us fellas. It’s a pain in the keister.
